Rolex GMT Master

The GMT-Master belongs to the Rolex models which were originally designed for professional use.
With the display of a second time zone, it was specifically tailored to the needs of line pilots, hence the model’s name GMT (from “Greenwich Mean Time”), after the place in England where the historical prime meridian for the calculation of longitude and the division of the earth into time zones is located.

In 1954, Rolex presented the first GMT Master, which was already equipped with the unmistakable blue-red rotating bezel. It quickly became the official watch of several airlines, most notably the legendary Pan American Airways, whose invitation to bid is said to have caused Rolex to develop the new model in the first place.
